I Want to Look Like My Dogs!
October 14, 2019
Listen to this post:
No, that doesn’t mean that I want floppy ears, a tail, and hair that sheds all over the place. Even though our dogs are pretty cute, I really want to look like them in the way my behavior is towards other people.
LOVING LIKE DOGS
They can make us feel good when they’re excited to see us after we’ve been gone five minutes or five hours. Dogs lay by our side when we’re not feeling well. They can sense our emotions when we’re sad or irritated, and they’ll provide calming comfort to us. AND they’re content with getting just a morsel of whatever I’m eating – whereas, I want the whole thing!
The Bible is full of verses instructing us about being encouraging, caring, and compassionate. Some examples are:
1 Thessalonians 3:12
1 Thessalonians 5:11
1 Peter 4:9
I think my dogs look better at living scripturally than I do! Why is it that they can be better at fulfilling the Word of God than me? Maybe they have less influences in their lives to sway them from what their instincts tell them to do. Maybe it’s because they weren’t the ones who started the cycle of sinning, so they just live the way God created them.
Nature or Nurture?
As much as I want to think that love comes naturally for me, it’s pretty obvious that I need nurturing to get me anywhere near the level of Jesus. I have a hard time making this happen naturally.
So how are you at doing at loving and showing compassion to family, friends, and strangers – no matter what’s going on in your life? Need a little more nurturing? Keep studying the Bible, and the words will become more and more natural to you, and you can look more like your dog!
